Census Classification

The Census Classification screen is used to create values used with the Recalculate Staffing Needs wizard.

Codes set as Calculations types are used in the formula to adjust the staffing needs, while values set as Reporting types are used for reporting purposes only.

The Census Classification codes set up on this screen can be used by all organization units. When an organization unit selects a staffing distribution option, all the codes set up for that staffing distribution are displayed when running the Recalculate Staffing Needs wizard. The organization unit can determine which of the codes to use.

Staffing Factor

Type

Census Category

Indicates the staffing distribution option where the code is available, such as Staffing by Lookups.

Code

The alphanumeric short name or abbreviation identifying this census classification record.

If you are using the Current Staffing Overview, the Code field on the Census Classification must be entered as "Census". If the code is not Census, the census values on the Current Staffing Overview will not accumulate correctly. For this reason, the Code field is normally entered as Census when your system is first set up.

Note

When used with the Staffing by Profile option, this code acts as an interface value between the profiles in Time and Attendance and Staffing and Scheduling and in Patient Classification (or a third-party patient classification system). In this scenario, this value must match a profile group value in Patient Classification. This same value must then be entered into the Profile records on the parameters tab, in the Profile Groups field (SS Solution Standard Alpha 1).

Description

The label describing this census classification record.

Sort Order

Determines the order the census classification options appear on the screen when running the Recalculate Staffing Needs wizard.

Split

Indicates whether the patient care hours used by this record should be split between two coverage periods (Yes/No).

Staffing Factor

Value used in the formula for calculating the Staffing by Ratios option. This field is only available if the Census Category is set to Staffing by Ratios and the Type is set to Calculations.

Type

Indicates whether this code is set as a Reporting record (used for reporting purposes only) or a Calculation record (used in the formula to adjust the staffing needs).
