Open Shift Notifications

These preferences determine your notification methods for receiving message and open shift notifications.

Enable notifications

To set preferences to enable notifications, complete the following steps.

  1. Navigate to Preferences > My Preferences > Open Shift Notifications.

  2. If it is not already selected, select the Notify me option.

  3. Enter your numbers and email address in the notification methods you wish to use.

    Note

The notification methods available are determined by your organization.

In addition, notification methods that are required display an asterisk. You need to select them and enter values to continue.

    • Text Number - The system sends a text message to your mobile phone number with the message or the details about the shift and a number to reply to.

The number must be 10 digits and entered as either: xxxxxxxxxx or (xxx) xxx-xxxx

For more information about using a text number, see the section below, Using a text number to receive notifications.

    • Email Address - The system sends an email with the message or details about the shift.

When you receive an email with an Open Shift Notification, click the link in the email or paste the link into a browser. Then in the browser window, click Request to confirm that you want to work the shift. Click Decline (or simply ignore the email) to indicate that you do not want to work the shift.

    • Phone Number - The system calls your phone number and gives you the message or details about the shift.

The number must be 10 digits and entered as either xxxxxxxxxx or (xxx) xxx-xxxx.

  4. Click Save.

Stop notifications

You can stop receiving notifications at any time, either temporarily or permanently. If you are going on vacation, for example, and want notifications to stop during that time, you can turn them off temporarily. The notifications will stop and then restart automatically based on your specified dates.

Note

Stopping notifications may not immediately stop all notifications. There is a scenario that can cause notifications to work in an unexpected way. Notifications are sent using one of two methods: immediate or delayed (created now but scheduled to be sent in the future). The following explanation applies only to the delayed method.

There may be an overlap between the time that a notification is created (but not yet sent) and when you stop or enable notifications. Your notification status (enabled or stopped) is checked at the time that a notification is created. If your status changes before the scheduled notification is actually sent, that change is not considered. The following examples help explain the overlap scenario:

  • You have notifications enabled. A manager creates a notification on Monday but schedules it to be sent Wednesday. On Tuesday, you stop notifications. Because you had notifications enabled on Monday (the day the notification was created), you will still get the notification on Wednesday.

  • You have notifications stopped. A manager creates a notification on Monday but schedules it to be sent Wednesday. On Tuesday, you enable notifications. Because you had notifications stopped on Monday (the day the notification was created), you will not get the notification on Wednesday.

To stop notifications, complete the following steps.

  1. Navigate to Preferences > My Preferences > Open Shift Notifications.

  2. To stop notifications permanently, select the Opt me out option. Skip to Step 6.

    Notifications are stopped immediately.

Although this is a permanent option, you can come back and re-enable notifications at any time with the Notify me option.

  3. To stop notifications temporarily, select the Turn off temporarily option.

  4. Enter a Stop Date and Stop Time.

Notifications will automatically stop at this time.

  5. Enter a Resume Date and Resume Time.

Notifications will automatically resume at this time.

    Tip

If you want to resume notifications early, simply return to this screen and select the Notify me option.

If you return to the screen after the Resume Date and Time have passed, the Notify me option is already selected.

  6. Click Save.
